Richard Wagner revolutionierte nicht nur die Oper, sondern setzte in seinen Musikdramen auch völlig neue Instrumente ein. Eines der bedeutendsten dieser Sonderinstrumente ist das Steingraeber-Gralsglockenklavier, ursprünglich von Richard Wagner und dem Klavierbauer Eduard Steingraeber für die Uraufführung des „Parsifals“ 1882 konzipiert, steht es bis heute im Festspielhaus Bayreuth. Ab 1912 entwickelte die Klaviermanufaktur Steingraeber eine zweite kraftvollere Gralsglocke als Hackbrett, also ohne Tasten, die heute zum Beispiel noch im Nationaltheater Weimar im Einsatz ist. Ein Nachbau dieser Gralsglocke aus dem Jahr 2015 erklang mit der eigens dafür geschaffenen Neukomposition „Intermezzi“ des Bayreuther Komponisten Wolfram Graf 2016 erstmals in einem Konzert. Die Dokumentation dieses Ereignisses liegt nun auch als digitales Audio-Album vor. Dabei bildet Wolfram Grafs Transkription von Wagners Siegfried-Idyll für ein Saxophon-Quartett und Klavier, das mit dem Weltklasse-Ensemble „clair obscur“ aus Berlin und dem Bayreuther Klavierprofessor Wolfgang Döberlein aufgenommen wurde, sicherlich die spektakulärste Ergänzung.
